This acetylcholine test analyses the concentration of a substance called (AChR) antibody in your blood. Acetylcholine is a chemical that helps the muscles to contract. It acts as a messenger between the nerves and muscles. People who have myasthenia gravis (MG) often make an abnormal protein called .

When is the Acetyl choline receptor binding antibody test recommended?

It is recommended:

To help diagnose myasthenia gravis (MG) and to distinguish it from other conditions that may cause similar symptoms, such as chronic muscle fatigue and weakness.
The AChR antibody test may be ordered when you have signs and symptoms that suggest myasthenia gravis, such as drooping eyelids, double vision, decreased eye movement control, difficulty swallowing, chewing, choking, drooling, and gagging, slurred speech, weak neck muscles, trouble holding up your head, difficulty breathing, difficulty walking, and an altered gait.
In cases of specific muscle weakness but normal feelings and sensations.
