Aldolase is an enzyme found mainly in the skeletal muscles, brain, and liver. This enzyme helps the body to break down sugars to produce energy. Cells containing the enzyme that get damaged release aldolase into the bloodstream. Higher levels of aldolase in the blood can be a sign of muscle or organ damage.
It is recommended when: Symptoms include muscle weakness, which can make it hard for the child to walk, run, and jump. Aldolase testing may be used to diagnose myopathies, diseases, and disorders of the muscles. This includes muscular dystrophy and inflammatory muscle disorders like polymyositis, dermatomyositis, and rhabdomyolysis, a process in which the breakdown of muscle tissue, muscle pain, and weakness are due to infectious diseases, and muscle problems caused by medications.
The Aldolase test measures: When cells in the muscles or liver have been damaged, large amounts of aldolase are released into the bloodstream. The aldolase may be higher than normal in many disorders, ranging from infectious diseases to cancer. However, because there are more specific tests for the diagnosis of many of these diseases and aldolase is only measured in certain conditions. Aldolase is a type of protein that is called an enzyme, and it is found throughout the body, with the greatest amounts being in the skeletal muscles, liver, and brain. Aldolase helps in the process of converting sugars like glucose and fructose into energy.
The Aldolase test is prescribed by your doctor after completing the assessment of your condition.
You will get the reports within 48 hours after the collection of the blood sample.
