Dengue is a rapidly increasing viral infection spread through the bite of a mosquito. This infection shows similar symptoms to viral/bacterial fever including excruciating eye pain, development of a rash, presence of muscle, bone, and joint pain, and bouts of nausea or vomiting, often accompanied by a high body temperature. However, dengue fever can extend for 2-7 days (unlike viral/bacterial fever, which extends up to 3-4 days) and has the potential to be life-threatening. The dengue fever NS1 antigen test is a diagnostic test for dengue fever that detects the NS1 protein. Dengue fever occurs due to the bite of a mosquito carrying any one of the four types of dengue virus. Once the dengue virus enters the body, it secretes its non-structural protein, or NS1, into the bloodstream, causing symptoms.

If you have dengue-like symptoms or just want to ensure you're not infected, you have the option to arrange a test with us.
Your healthcare provider may recommend the dengue NS1 antigen test for any of the following reasons:
· Early detection of NS1 protein (detectable during the first 7 days of symptoms). This will help in the identification of the dengue virus infection in the initial stages and hence, the treatment protocols can be initiated early.
· To identify whether dengue is the cause of your fever.
· If you live in regions with a prevalence of dengue or have visited such areas, and you've recently displayed signs and symptoms of dengue.
The dengue NS1 antigen test detects the presence of the NS1 protein in your blood produced in the initial stages of infection by the dengue virus. If the result of the test is positive, the dengue virus is present. However, additional tests may be required to confirm the diagnosis.
