The stool for hanging drop test checks for the presence of certain bacteria that have an organ for locomotion known as flagella. This is the modified version of the wet mount method.
It is recommended: When a bacterial infection of the digestive system is suspected and symptoms of such infection appear, including watery stool, inconsistent bowel movements, stomach pain, etc. It performs a presumptive diagnosis of cholera caused by the infection of cholera.
The Stool Hanging Drop test: In a wet mount, though the shape and size of bacteria can be observed, motility may be hampered as the suspension is pressed between the slide and the coverslip. That is why the hanging drop preparation or motility test is performed for clear observation of the motility of bacteria, besides their shape and size. The wet mount and the hanging drop methods preserve cell shape and arrangement. The vaseline-sealed depression also slows down the drying process, so the organisms can be observed for longer periods. This preparation provides a clear image of bacteria moving across the microscopic field and shows the true signs of motility.
You will get the reports within 48 hours after the collection of the blood sample.
