The Typhidot test is done to detect IgM antibodies against Salmonella typhi, the bacteria that causes typhoid fever. Typhoid mainly spreads through contaminated food and water, and milk and manifests in the form of fever, loss of appetite, stomach pain, and diarrhoea.
It is recommended:In case of signs or symptoms of typhoid (enteric) fever such as headache, high fever, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, weight loss, or skin rashes.
The Typhidot test measures:It measures IgM antibodies against Salmonella typhi.These antibodies are produced against the outer membrane protein (OMP) of Salmonella typhi species.This test usually shows results within 2 or 3 days of infection. It identifies the IgM antibody separately.The presence of IgM antibodies indicates a recent infection while the presence of IgG antibodies indicates a foreign infection.
The reports will take about 6 hours after the blood sample is collected.
