Renin is an enzyme that helps to control your blood pressure, made by special cells in the kidneys. When the blood pressure drops too low or your body doesn’t have enough salt, renin gets sent into your bloodstream. This triggers a chain of reactions that creates a hormone called angiotensin and signals your adrenal glands to release another hormone called aldosterone. The process through which the body regulates blood pressure relies on both Renin and the hormone Aldosterone.
It is recommended:To detect hyperaldosteronism (overproduction of aldosterone) or hypoaldosteronism (underproduction of aldosterone). To aid in diagnosing the cause of unexplained high blood pressure.
The Direct Renin Plasma test: Measures Renin levels in the blood. Renin is an enzyme produced by the kidneys which helps to control blood pressure. Renin testing can be helpful in evaluating the cause of high blood pressure (hypertension), especially when a person is not responding to blood pressure medication.Aldosterone and renin tests are usually requested together. High blood pressure together with a low potassium concentration within the bloodstream usually leads the doctor to request these two tests. Aldosterone levels are sometimes tested in people suspected of having poor adrenal function.
You will get the reports within 15 hours after the collection of the blood sample.
The cost of the Direct Renin Plasma test is Rs. 5,200.
The Direct Renin Plasma test is prescribed by your doctor after completing the assessment of your condition.
