It is recommended: To diagnose hyperparathyroidism (excessive secretion of parathyroid hormone) and hypoparathyroidism (low secretion of parathyroid hormone). To monitor the surgical treatment for hyperparathyroidism (Intraoperative PTH). To determine the causes of abnormal calcium values.
The Parathyroid Hormone (PTH) Intact test measures:The parathyroid hormone intact test analyses the levels of intact parathyroid hormone in the blood. The parathyroid hormone is secreted by two pairs of parathyroid glands that are located behind the thyroid gland. It secretes when blood calcium levels fall below the normal levels (hypocalcaemia). The parathyroid hormone is secreted in a diurnal pattern, with values reaching the highest during sleep and lowest during midday. The parathyroid hormone secretion also follows a seasonal pattern due to the inverse of the relationship with vitamin D. These low levels of vitamin D are generally observed during the winters and in cloudy weather due to the low sunlight. The levels of the intact PTH hormones are normally lower than the C-terminal fragments but it increases in the case of calcium deficiency.
You will get the reports within 36 hours after the collection of the blood sample.
